Life placed on hold…

Imaging sitting down getting ready to edit your latest batch of photos, checking your email and perform some other random tasks when you see the dreaded notification that your OS requires patching. With great hesitation you approve the updates and then hold your breath…. and hold… and there it is, your system has failed to start.

Well that is exactly what happened to me back in February of this year. Unfortunately, that was not the first time that I had a catastrophic issues with my system being patched, but it was the last straw. At that point I had a choice, rebuild the system I had or just buy a new system. That choice was pretty easy and to be honest so was the next, what manufacture to go with? Here is the thing, I have a “gamer” type laptop and I have had to rebuild or recover it after patching, so I knew that going the route I had been going was not going to make anything better. So I switched. It was not because of hype “oh the shiny new thing” or because every in YouTube land was getting one. To be honest I was late to the party as far as that goes. I switched because, I knew there was a better way and just had to suck it up and hit the buy button.

Just a note, just because you hit the buy button does not mean that all your issues are solved. In fact, my original estimated delivery date for what I spec’d out and purchased was mid April. And then when mid April hit, it became mid May and then the end of June. The entire time I was waiting it seemed like someone had pressed pause on one aspect my life. I did not have a system capable of editing photos or even remotely editing videos. There was little point in creating videos and with other things going on I was not able to get out and do much photography. As a result, life was generally put on hold, at least that aspect of it.

The wait time has passed now. The new system has arrived and things are no longer on hold. Now it is just a matter of getting back into the grove and starting to create again.

I will say that some very odd transformations happened after hitting that “buy button”. I am still sort of shacking my head over it and wondering if with was related to a platform change or just a simple mindset change sparked by that very trivial action of clicking the button.
